Lorena Gutiérrez Barocio Rocket Vinyasa Certification with Mariana Cisneros in The Yoga Lab GDL 2025

Hola!

I’m Lorena Gutiérrez Barocio, though I like to be called Lo. As an architect I embrace the idea that “less is more” (Mies van der Rohe), and this single syllable from my name has become my playful and simple signature (@lo.sutil).

I’m from Guadalajara, México, where I currently live, but I grew up in Puerto Vallarta, my father’s hometown. This duality has always made me feel a bit like an outsider tapatía in my own town.

I discovered yoga as a way to reconnect with inner peace and balance amidst the demands of my architectural career. I fell in love with the practice. My first approach came a couple of years before becoming a mother, through Ashtanga classes at the gym where I used to swim (I was never into weights). The teacher was Paco, a Venezuelan. After pausing during early motherhood, I returned by seeking out him and later Sergio, who had taken his place. That’s how I found my way into yoga shalas, where I practiced for several years at Urban Yoga, mostly Vinyasa and exploring other styles such as Tripsichore (once with Edward Clark) or Acroyoga, which isn’t really my thing, but I’m glad I got to experience it.

During the pandemic I completed my 200 hrs YTT at Urban Yoga with Elis. At that time, I wasn’t focused on becoming a teacher, but rather on deepening my own practice and connecting with others during the global lockdown. Shortly after, I discovered Rocket Yoga through Instagram accounts like Jacobo Ruiz. I took my first Rocket training with Manuel and Mariana Cisneros at at Punto Yoga (2023), I felt the call to join—even if I had already missed the Early Bird.

Until then, I had taught Vinyasa only occasionally. And now, two years after that first training, in September 2025, Mariana returned to Guadalajara to lead another Rocket Yoga Teacher Training at The Yoga Lab, I sign up —and this time, I actually made it on the Early Bird. I admire the dynamism of her practice and how she shares her knowledge and experience with such joy.

Take one step, and things start to happen. Just a couple of weeks before the training began, I started sharing a studio space where I now hold a few weekly hours and one of my fellow students from the 200 hrs YTT, Luis—who now lives in my childhood Puerto Vallarta and has been trained in Rocket with Mark Hanuman—suggested that we share from my space with our colleagues, a BBQ Rocket session, led by him with me assisting. That experience inspired me to share my practice, now that I’ve completed my second training.

Yoga enters life for many different reasons, and it transforms us in unexpected ways. In my case, it has even reshaped my vision as an architect. Today, through @aum.mindfulspaces, I design mindful environments—spaces for meditation, for yoga, and to connect with nature, from serene outdoor gardens to contemplative spaces.

Everything feels different now. I open myself to the experience of sharing Rocket from where I stand, twice a week, letting this passionate practice elevate and enlighten. 🌿
