George Fistonich

George Fistonich, RYT-200, is a Washington, DC-based vinyasa yoga teacher. He trained in Ashtanga-based power and vinyasa yoga under Mimi Rieger, and in Rocket vinyasa yoga foundations with David Kyle. George helps manage, facilitate, and train students in Mimi Rieger’s 200-hr yoga teacher training program.

As a non-athlete, non-performer, and non-teacher, George found yoga asana at age 27, and after cultivating a dedicated practice, he began teaching power/vinyasa yoga in January 2019. Both the steady practice and the journey to become a teacher were pivotal in the development of introspection, confidence, and unattachment that he practices in daily life.

As a teacher, George provides space for yoga students to find and cultivate the same qualities in themselves. With the knowledge that discovering yoga can have significant, life-changing, positive effects on people’s lives, he tries to make a “typical” yoga practice as accessible and fun as possible, while gradually interweaving yoga philosophies that many students may be unfamiliar with. George teaches students from beginner to experienced, in settings from led classes, workshops, and teacher trainings.

In George’s flow classes, you can expect both Ashtanga-based postures and Rocket vinyasa-style transitions, emphasizing breath, bandha, and drishti to help students find and maintain connectivity, focus, and the flow state we seek in yoga asana. His teaching spotlights alignment and effort while allowing leaving room for creativity and ease.
